Here in this beautiful venue the summer Calligraphy workshop by Loredana Zega & Igor Kužnik will take place in July and August!
Vipavski Križ stands on top of a charming hill in the middle of the breathtaking Vipava Valley. Its image is noticeable from afar, and the most interesting stories are hidden within the walls. It belongs to the most beautiful historical and cultural monuments of Slovenia and is a settlement protected as a monument in its entirety.

MONOLINE SCRIPTS
- ARTIST BOOK
22. - 24. JULY 2024 
The monoline - gestural writing I use mostly in contrast to my bold brush scripts. There are many possibilities for how to use these lines - they can be bold, spaced, vertical, etc. And they can also be energetic, static, or playful... I will show you how the dance really helps you to be spontaneous and why there is so much symmetry and balance in the letters that are made that way. We will play with the lines - making many interesting pages that you will use in the last part! Igor will show you how to bind the pages created in the class together in order to create your artist book!

BRUSH TEXTURES

The brush textures are one of the most satisfying things to explore in calligraphy. They bring so much beauty and emotion to our eyes and train them in order to see the balance among the black and white space.
Texture refers to how something feels, including its appearance and consistency. Textures create depth and interesting shapes which will be our main challenge during this workshop besides discovering the dynamics, saturation, and ambience. 
We will be exploring textures with flame script. If you already know this script, you can try an advance version of it.

29. - 31. JULY 2024 
This workshop is about getting to know the process of making the medieval sawn book. In order to have enough time to try this old technique and actually saw the book during the workshop, there will be some preparation required in advance.
I will work with you on the designs using the Igor's collection of old brass letters and then he will guide you in order to make your own gold-press print on the covers of the book or an artwork itself...
You can bring with you what you may have at home: different hand made paper, leather, parchment, old leather belts etc...

EXPLORING
THE TEXTILE - with FRAKTUR
2. - 4. AUGUST 2024 
In this workshop, we will be exploring different textile materials for writing. The word "textile" derives from the Latin textilis - meaning “to weave,” and it originally referred to woven fabrics. We will explore the design possibilities in order to create eye-pleasant patterns for our project.
Although this is mostly a brush workshop where the script Fraktur will be explored, we will try to use other writing instruments, too.
So, bring whatever tool you have. This will be an inspirational workshop for sure!
