Here in this beautiful venue the summer Calligraphy workshop by Loredana Zega will take place in the end of October 2025.
Vipavski Križ stands on top of a charming hill in the middle of the breathtaking Vipava Valley. Its image is noticeable from afar, and the most interesting stories are hidden within the walls. It belongs to the most beautiful historical and cultural monuments of Slovenia and is a settlement protected as a monument in its entirety.

You can choose between these 2 Workshops:

ROTUNDA from Venice Manuscripts

The first workshop will be dedicated to exploring manuscripts from the Museo Correr library in Venice. We will look at some examples from their manuscripts and focus on the Rotunda – this beautiful “Italian Gothic”. In this workshop we will study the lowercase letters and try to complete one side of a small folio - by studying the dimensions and proportions of the manuscript. I will also bring quills and some scraps of parchment so you will experience a little piece of history... :)

ILLUMINATION on the stones

This workshop is dedicated to illumination, as we will visit Venice - the Museo Correr library and Tiziano Vecellio House, where they make gold leaf, which is a great start for our journey (not obligatory). In the workshop we will use their gold leaf and other metallic pigments, and we took the book Miniature del Museo Correr di Venezia as inspiration. We will try to create a modern illuminated piece on stone or paper and took home something very special - besides memories...

A free day in between 2 workshops:

There will be a day off in the middle of the two workshops for visiting Museo Correr in Venice (150 km away) where the guardians of the library will show us their most precious manuscripts. Believe me, this is a breathtaking experience; to hold and explore these little treasures with your own hands...

While in Venice we will take a visit to a Tiziano Vecellio house where the last gold-beating craftsman Mario Berta in the city is active. From his work and the expert hands of his family emerge the precious gold leaves that are used to enrich Murano glass and monuments.
