We will play and explore the world of colours on black surfaces, creating a deep space, using the transparency of the brush and adding the monoline scripts to make dramatic designs. We will be playing with light in order to create depth, where the mystery and magic are hidden.

Color & Design

Brush is a very unique, responsive and gentle tool, which can be used for your calligraphy backgrounds or the final artworks. With the patterns and transparent paths of the brush, you will enjoy all the advantages that offers. You will build your design by exploring the textures of the color and the brush by making numerous layers of letters, changing positions... This effect is really breathtaking! In addition to dry brush, we will learn how to incorporate the smaller texts - written with regular nibs (smaller nibs that are familiar to you) into your final design. And by choosing and mixing the right colors we can make our pieces outstanding!
Level: Intermediate - Advance level

Monoline

Sunday, 16. June 20241 meeting from 6 - 9 pm CET
The monoline-gestual writing I use is mostly in contrast to my bold brush scripts. There are many possibilities for how to use these lines - they can be bold, spaced, vertical, etc. And they can also be energetic, static or playful... I will show you how the dance helps you to be spontaneous and why there is so much symmetry and balance in the letters that are made that way. We will play with the lines - making different alphabets that you will be able to use in your pieces. Prepare for an adventure!

This calligraphy workshop is about planning a design for a wall that you can actually create during the workshop. We will start with smaller sketches for a final project. So, we will also use the smaller metal nibs (Brause, automatic or anything flat). I will talk about the use of the appropriate color in indoor spaces and all the technical issues of the matter. We will be exploring also a brush technique that can be used for a feeling of the 3D space. When we are going bigger, the proportions of the blank space between and within letters become a more challenging task... The finale is about creating the actual wall. That is why there are so many days before the last meeting! On the second and the third meeting I will demonstrate writing on an actual wall! For Intermediate to Advance level
